Achievable Waist Reduction
The Waist Reduction rating is the maximum waist reduction achievable of the corset. Just because a corset is rated to a 4 or 5" waist reduction doesn't mean you have to wear them that tightly, you have the choice between comfort & control.
Not interested in Waist Reduction? This rating will give you an idea of the weight of the corsets in our collections, from lingerie to expert level corsetry, as well as the support they offer.
Disguise Rating Explained
The Disguise Rating is how invisible a corset is underneath clothing, relative to the other designs available in our collections.
All Corsets & foundation garments will be difficult to completely disguise underneath bodycon and very tight fitting sheer garments. Dresses with scooped backs can also be problematic when pairing with overbust designs.
Comfort Rating Explained
The Comfort Rating is how comfortable your corset will be. Some fabrics are less suited to longer periods of wear and more theatrical designs can become heavy if wearing all day.
Naturally you will find that your corset will be less comfortable the tighter you lace it, corsetry is about finding the balance between comfort & control that best suits you.
It is, in fact, the most common reason people go to the doctors or take time off work.
The human back is composed of a complex structure of muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and disks. The components work together to support the body and enable us to move around. Problems with any of these components can lead to back pain and require us to use a form of lumbar support.
Back pain can occur for a variety of reasons. One of the most common causes of low back pain is poor posture when sitting. Back injuries can also arise from tripping, falling a short distance, excessive twisting of the spine or when you use your back muscles in activities that you do not do very often, such as lifting a heavy object or doing physical work. Back pain can affect people of any age, for different reasons. And as people get older, the chance of developing lower back pain increases, due to factors such as previous occupation and degenerative disk disease.
To treat and ease back pain, many people opt for a form of posture support. There are numerous back support products available, but the most popular are back belts, back braces and corsets.
At Corset Story, we have many customers who come to us that suffer from back pain and are looking for additional lumbar support. We are not medical experts, so you should speak to a medical expert or your doctor before wearing one of these corsets. As it’s is essential to understand if a corset would be beneficial for your back as part of your treatment.
While they aren’t suitable for everyone, many people do find that specific types of corsets provide effective posture support and help to ease and improve back pain as part of ongoing treatment. Adjustable, structured corsets that can be tightened put pressure on your abdomen, providing lumbar support and potentially helping with a range of back conditions. Including, low back pain, arthritis and degenerative disc disease. A corset can also be used for a short time to treat pain from a sprain or strain and may also be used to stabilize your spine after a fracture or surgery. Again, always seek medical advice before wearing a corset for any of the reasons mentioned above.
